Safety & Responsible Ownership

At Localreptileshows, we believe that responsible ownership is the foundation of our industry. Whether you are a first-time buyer or an experienced enthusiast, these safety fundamentals are worth reviewing regularly.

The Four Universal Safety Rules

1. Treat every firearm as if it is loaded

Always assume a firearm is loaded until you have personally verified otherwise. Even then, continue to follow all safety rules.

2. Never point at anything you do not intend to shoot

Always be aware of your muzzle direction. Keep it pointed in a safe direction at all times.

3. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire

Rest your trigger finger on the frame or slide until you have identified your target and made the decision to fire.

4. Know your target and what is beyond it

Always be certain of your target, its surroundings, and what is behind it before firing.

Safe Storage

Store firearms unloaded and locked when not in use
Keep ammunition stored separately from firearms
Use a quality gun safe or locking cabinet
Consider trigger locks or cable locks as additional security
Keep storage keys and combinations secure from unauthorized persons
Ensure firearms are inaccessible to children and unauthorized users

Training and Education

We strongly recommend formal training for all firearm owners, regardless of experience level. Look for NRA-certified instructors or state-approved training programs in your area. Regular practice at a supervised range is essential for maintaining proficiency and safe handling habits.
